Florida or the “sunshine state” offers year-round warmth for LGBTQ travelers. One of the world’s famous gay and lesbian travel destinations, Florida is home to a number of gay-friendly cities, ultimate theme parks and miles of pristine coastline. Same-sex marriage has been legal in the beach state since 2013, and destinations like Fort Lauderdale, Miami Beach, Palm Beach, Singer Island and Key West are known for their flourishing LGBTQ nightlife scene. In this article, we have compiled a list of the hottest LGBTQ destinations and festivals hosted by the sunshine state that lure millions of LGBTQ travelers every year.

Fort Lauderdale

Florida’s gay capital, Fort Lauderdale, has been a safe haven for the LGBTQ community for decades with its focus on equity for all. The city was one of the pioneers in penalizing discrimination based on sexual orientation. Head to the city’s Sebastian Street Beach or Terramar Street Beach, and you can commonly find LGBTQ couples holding hands or enjoying a tan. Gay bars and dance clubs like the Ramrod, Monkey Bar and the Manor are famous for their groovy music, theme nights, and wild contests. Wilton Manors

Wilton Manors is a famous gayborhood of Fort Lauderdale and has been dubbed as United State’s second gayest city. Wilton Manors admiration for its LGBTQ history can be seen at the Stonewall National Museum & Archives, which boasts being the largest gay library in the country. Key West

Key West is also known for its popular LGBTQ events and festivals like the PrideFest, Women Fest and Fantasy Fest that attract gays and lesbians of all ages.

Miami Beach

The Miami Beach or the “Gay Riviera” has been a hotspot for gay travelers for decades, and it also holds the distinction of being the first city to open an LGBTQ visitors center. Food connoisseurs will have a gala time at the Fantasy Fest as the city streets are flooded with eateries of all kinds.

Gay Days, Orlando

Gay Days is one of the most popular LGBTQ celebrations in the world, attracting over 100,000 gays and lesbians to Orlando. The festival features a number of special events, pool parties, and theme park attractions. A ride on the decked-up coasters of the Universal Studios should not be missed during the event. A lot of food, fun, and frolic await the community at this week-long celebration.

Fort Lauderdale Gay & Lesbian Film Festival

Fort Lauderdale Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, held in October, is Florida’s premier showcase for LGBTQ-themed movies. The screenings focus on historical perspectives of the LGBTQ community and their acceptance into the mainstream of society. The festival carries on for ten days and screens more than 60 films. Delicious food and colorful costumes are the other attractions of this festival.
